Sources: Anthropic has no intention of relaxing restrictions on military use

PANews, February 25 — Sources reveal that after discussions with the U.S. Pentagon about the company’s future, Anthropic has no intention of relaxing restrictions on its military applications. The meeting between Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin aimed to resolve a months-long dispute. The AI startup refused to lift certain safety measures designed to prevent its technology from being used for autonomous targeting of weapons and domestic surveillance in the U.S. According to insiders, during the meeting, Austin issued an ultimatum: either be considered a supply chain risk or the government will invoke legal authority to force Anthropic to change its policies. The deadline for Anthropic’s response is this Friday.
