According to Cointelegraph’s report, the police confirmed the description given by TSL CEO Elon Musk regarding the incident, which was a possible terrorist attack involving a truck in New Orleans.
Musk said that the TSL Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas was caused by explosives or fireworks, and that relevant authorities are investigating what could be a terrorist act.
In his X post on January 1st, Musk stated that the explosive material was loaded into a rented Cybertruck bucket, so it had nothing to do with the Cybertruck itself: ‘All vehicle telemetry data was positive at the time of the explosion.’ He posted a follow-up post after confirming that TSL is investigating the incident.
The police also confirmed that the Cybertruck was loaded with fireworks launchers, gasoline tanks, and camping fuel.
Officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the driver who died in the Cybertruck, but said they are conducting a joint investigation with federal, state, and local authorities. Investigators are working to confirm the suspect’s identity and determine whether this was an act of terrorism.
The Las Vegas Police Department posted on X, saying, “The current investigation results indicate that this is an isolated incident with no signs of a larger plan.”
TSL Cybertruck explosion is related to the New Orleans truck attack
TSL electric truck suddenly exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas at 8:40 am local time-just a few hours after the New Year celebration ended.
The explosion caused the driver to be killed, he parked in the hotel’s valet parking area, and injured seven other people.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters: “A 2024 Cybertruck was parked in front of the hotel, and I can actually tell you that it was parked at the glass entrance of the hotel. We saw the vehicle start to smoke, and then there was a huge explosion.”
The explosion came hours after an ISIS-flagged suspect crashed into a crowd celebrating the New Year with a Ford pickup, killing at least 15 people.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has also confirmed that it is investigating this attack as an act of terrorism.
According to the New York Post, officials said there is currently no evidence to link the two incidents together.
However, investigators told the New York Post that both Ford and TSL’s pickup trucks were rented from the Turo car rental app.
