Using technology to play hide-and-seek in the metaverse injects new vitality into Xiamen's culture and tourism

The digital islanders holding the “hide and seek” cards transform into walking potted plants, stools, road signs, and other items. On New Year’s Day 2025, the Gulangyu Metaverse, jointly created by the Xiamen Municipal People’s Government and China Mobile’s Migu, will transform into a large-scale hide-and-seek venue, with intelligent islanders forming teams to PK and enjoy themselves, kicking off the hot “festive mode” in advance. With the application of cutting-edge technologies such as 5G+XR and Metaverse, people from all over the world can directly ‘parachute’ to Gulangyu Island without the need to travel. Traditional hide-and-seek has also taken on a new form in the Metaverse space, and many players say, ‘In the Gulangyu Island Metaverse, they have found their childhood memories of happiness’.

It is reported that the Gulangyu Metaverse, based on the 1.88 square kilometers area of Gulangyu, has created a cyber island that is accessible to global users through high-precision 3D modeling. It is reported that while providing more innovative ways to celebrate traditional Chinese festivals, Gulangyu Metaverse will continue to support offline activities such as poetry festivals and music seasons, closely connecting online and offline user experience scenarios, refreshing the digital cultural and tourism experience, and injecting new vitality into Xiamen’s cultural and tourism industry with technology.
