Stacks continues to push the boundaries of possibilities on Bitcoin with a planned launch of SBTC.

SBTC to Promote Bitcoin Defi Ecosystem

Stacks, a Bitcoin layer two (L2) platform recently teased the impending launch of SBTC, a 1:1 bitcoin-backed asset designed to bridge bitcoin with decentralized finance (defi) and Web3. This was stated in an X post looking at the flourishing Bitcoin defi ecosystem on Stacks.

The post shared updates on activity in the Stacks community being boosted by Hermetica’s USDH, which claims to provide a high return of 35% APR; Velar Dex’s new permissionless pool formation function; Bitflow’s teaser for the L2 Runes automated market maker (AMM) user interface; and the ongoing ALEX Surge event.

SBTC is a bitcoin-backed synthetic asset pegged 1:1 to BTC that allows users to access bitcoin liquidity directly within defi and Web3 ecosystems on the Stacks network. This move by Stacks looks to unlock bitcoin’s nearly two trillion market opportunity.

By enabling a programmable layer of bitcoin, SBTC enables users to integrate BTC into useful applications for trading on decentralized exchanges, yield generation, and on-chain lending.

An earlier post outlined a roadmap for SBTC with the launch primed for Dec. 16 along with backing from Immunefi, Coinflip, Bitcoin Frontier Fund, and most recently Portal Ventures.

With SBTC, Stacks is positioning itself to unlock Bitcoin’s full potential as the largest, most valuable, and most decentralized asset.
