Somnia, the high-performance EVM-compatible Layer 1 optimized for mass consumer-grade applications, has released an updated version of its Litepaper. The new document shares key innovations about the project, including the new Multistream consensus model.

Multi-stream Consensus will support Somnia to achieve 400,000 transactions per second and sub-second Block determinism, aiming to support the next generation of large-scale consumer-grade applications. Somnia is launching a $10 million ecosystem grant program to help promising developers connect with leading Web3 investors (including Mirana Ventures, Spartan Capital, and CMT Digital) to support developers in creating large-scale real-time applications across gaming, social platforms, metaverse, and other fields.

The new Somnia Litepaper reveals an architecture that supports its high throughput and performance while maintaining a high level of Decentralization. This new design includes advanced compression technology, enabling Somnia to transmit data between Nodes more efficiently than other Blockchains, as well as a multi-stream Consensus Algorithm, which helps the Blockchain achieve sub-second Block determinism. Somnia also features a custom database ICEdb, enabling it to achieve an average read/write time of 70-100 nanoseconds. The Blockchain has been optimized for single-thread sequential execution, outperforming traditional parallel models, especially during periods of high transaction density.

The Litepaper also introduces the benefits for developers to deploy games and social applications on a scalable on-chain that can support high volume DAPPs and maintain a super low-cost environment.

Somnia was developed by Virtual Society Foundation, an independent organization initiated by Improbable. Improbable, a UK-based startup, has been at the forefront of virtual world construction for over a decade. Virtual Society Foundation received initial funding support from MSquared, which raised $150 million in 2022.

Somnia has partnered with Yuga Labs to provide new uses for digital collectibles for Kodas, Otherdeed Expanded, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and Mutant Ape Yacht Club Non-fungible Token holders. The launch of Somnia L1 will allow Non-fungible Token holders to fully immerse themselves in on-chain gaming and interoperable virtual experiences. Non-fungible Token avatars can be used in virtual experiences such as the official MLB virtual baseball stadium and concerts by Kpop artists, like TWICE on Kosmopop. Somnia has also developed Dream Builder, a trap tool that allows users to turn their creative visions into reality, from converting 3D files into interoperable metaverse objects to building immersive worlds and game-like experiences.

Somnia’s blockchain performance features will ultimately move more off-chain logic on-chain, which is particularly important for games, social platforms, and other large-scale consumer applications. Somnia’s high-performance blockchain can also improve trading by creating an on-chain limit order book, giving users a decentralized exchange experience with the security of a decentralized blockchain, which is attractive for Decentralized Finance applications.

Releasing these new use cases, as well as other use cases that have not yet been imagined, will drive the widespread adoption of blockchain and Web3, and Somnia will be the best technical choice for these use cases, making it the obvious choice for developers and creators.
