Recently, with the help of VictoryXR, a global leader in virtual reality education, Goose Creek High School and Newbury County Career Center have entered the virtual world of education and joined the ranks of elite schools. Both schools were among the first centers in the United States to adopt metaverse education, ushering in a new world of 3D immersive learning.

Students who participate in the educational metaverse will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their content, experience hands-on lessons, and connect and learn with students across the state. Students will have the opportunity to hold the molecule in their hands, spend an hour on the starship, walk outside the spacecraft in a spacesuit, and visit Isaac Newton after traveling aboard a time machine.

Steve Grubbs, CEO of VictoryXR, said the study conclusively shows that students who learn in virtual reality are able to remember more of what they have learned. South Carolina is pioneering this educational metaverse initiative that aims to address learning deficits in meaningful ways with bold solutions.

Prior to this, there have been many educational institutions and schools abroad entering the metaverse.

In 2021, Stanford University launched a metaverse course. This is the first course at Stanford University to be conducted entirely in VR.

Last September, Meta and VictoryXR collaborated to create and open 10 metaverse virtual campuses. The project invested USD 150 million. Meta said that as part of its immersive learning project, which aims to bring education to virtual reality environments.

In August this year, Utrecht University, the world’s top public research university, established a capture and virtual reality laboratory to conduct scientific research innovation and talent reserves.

In October, Northland College launched the “Northland College Metaverse Campus”, becoming one of the few colleges in Canada to establish a comprehensive campus in the metaverse.

As of February 2023, a total of 71 universities in China have deployed in the metaverse field; South Korea’s Pohang University of Science and Technology is building into a “metaverse university” to digitize classrooms into metaverse cyberspace for training courses; Kai Seminar, an off-campus tuition institution in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, has officially launched a new course using the virtual space “metaverse” since this spring.

Education is one of the largest application directions of virtual reality and metaverse technology, although metaverse education provides more possibilities and flexibility, in fact, metaverse education still needs to overcome many problems if it wants to land. Issues such as the cost of time and money, data privacy and physical safety, lack of advanced infrastructure, and potential legal issues.

In addition, the associated hardware costs actually increase the cost of the school. Examples include licensing VR content, building a digital twin campus, VR headsets and other investment costs.
