NVIDIA has requested TSMC to expand the 3nm chip production capacity to 160,000 wafers. Jen-Hsun Huang: Blackwell demand is strong.

Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang recently made another appearance in Taiwan, pointing out that the demand for the company's latest generation AI chip Blackwell is strong, requesting TSMC to increase the 3nm production capacity to 160,000 pieces per month. He stated that other partners including SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron are all working hard to jointly promote the accelerated development of the AI industry.

Jen-Hsun Huang flashes TSMC event: NVIDIA Blackwell chip demand surges

Jen-Hsun Huang made a quick visit to Taiwan last week, revealing during the TSMC Sports Day event that the demand for the latest generation Blackwell AI chips is very strong, and the demand for TSMC (2330) wafers is also increasing.

He pointed out that NVIDIA not only manufactures GPUs, but also creates CPUs, networking chips, and switches, resulting in a usage of Blackwell-related chips far exceeding the past: “Our business growth is very strong, so shortages may occur in various fields.”

The AI boom is the key driver that pushed NVIDIA's market value to exceed $5 trillion, making it the first chip company in history to reach this milestone.

TSMC is fully supporting: 3nm production capacity increased to 160,000 wafers per month.

According to a report by Reuters, TSMC has increased its monthly production of 3-nanometer wafers to 160,000 units to meet the demand for NVIDIA's Blackwell chips. Jen-Hsun Huang stated, “TSMC has done an excellent job in wafer supply; without TSMC, there would be no NVIDIA today.”

TSMC CEO C.C. Wei also confirmed the request, but the specific quantity is confidential. This is Jen-Hsun Huang's fourth visit to Taiwan this year, once again demonstrating the close strategic cooperation between NVIDIA and TSMC.

The three memory giants run alongside, initiating the AI supercycle.

As the demand for high bandwidth memory (HBM) surges due to AI chips, Jen-Hsun Huang specifically named three memory manufacturers: SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron.

We have three excellent partners who provide cutting-edge memory products and have greatly increased their production capacity to support us.

SK Hynix announced last week that its production capacity for 2026 has been completely sold out and will significantly increase investment, anticipating that the AI boom will drive an extended “chip supercycle.” Samsung Electronics revealed that it is in close discussions with NVIDIA regarding the supply of next-generation HBM4 memory.

As for whether memory prices will rise, Jen-Hsun Huang's attitude is neutral: “It depends on how they manage their business.”

China's ban continues, and U.S. export controls are escalating.

In response to the export policy issue, Jen-Hsun Huang clearly stated that there are currently no specific discussions regarding the sale of Blackwell chips to China.

On one hand, there are export controls from the U.S. government, and on the other hand, the Chinese government has also ordered the prohibition of non-domestic AI chips for data centers that receive state subsidies, effectively excluding American-made chips such as those from Nvidia, AMD, or Intel.

TSMC optimistically raises its revenue forecast and actively expands its factories in the United States.

Driven by the AI boom, TSMC has raised its revenue growth forecast for 2025 to mid-thirty (34%~36%) and increased its annual capital expenditure lower limit from 38 billion USD to 40 billion USD.

Wai Che-Jia also emphasized that the company is closely monitoring the U.S. tariff policy and the progress of U.S.-Taiwan negotiations to ensure supply chain stability. TSMC is also continuously expanding its facilities in the U.S. to diversify risks and reduce tariff impacts. So far this year, TSMC's stock price in Taiwan has risen over 38%, reflecting investors' long-term confidence in the company during the AI chip era.
