Tesla CEO Elon Musk and “Prism” whistleblower Edward Snowden have both publicly supported Signal.
The Signal Foundation operates as a non-profit organization, mainly relying on donations for funding. During its development on mobile platforms, Signal integrated the privacy payment project MobileCoin. Signal’s founder, Moxie Marlinspike, served as a technical advisor for MobileCoin and holds a partial stake in the cryptocurrency.
