According to Bloomberg, Japanese Prime Minister Shizuka Shiba has reached a protocol with the main opposition party on an economic stimulus package, promising to conduct bipartisan discussions to promote comprehensive tax reform and implement economic stimulus measures.
The economic stimulus package is expected to be approved by the end of 2024, with the three major political parties agreeing to pass the necessary additional budget by the end of December. The proposed tax reform measures include changes to income tax, corporate tax, and encryption currency tax, indicating a shift in the ruling party's policies, which previously called for an increase in taxes.
According to Cointelegraph, Japan's current policy on cryptocurrency taxation relies on the vague and fluctuating 'miscellaneous taxes', which may impose tax rates as high as 55% on cryptocurrency transactions. The opposition party calls for a unified tax rate of 20% on digital assets, as well as other tax reduction measures.
