Bitcoin supporter Ramaswamy quits US presidential race

Bitcoin (BTC) supporter Vivek Ramaswamy has officially dropped out of the race for the U.S. presidency.

In a post on Jan. 16, Vivek Ramaswamy publicly endorsed Donald Trump’s candidacy, noting in his departure that the United States needs a patriot focused on America.

Ramaswamy withdrew his candidacy after Trump won the Iowa GOP primary. The former U.S. President received 51% of the vote, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis – 21%, and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley – 19%.

Ramaswamy has repeatedly stated that he is the only candidate who genuinely understands the blockchain. The politician opposed the integration of a central bank digital currency (CBDC), promised to reduce taxes on mining, and criticized the actions of the head of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Gary Gensler.

Besides Ramaswamy, in August 2023, cryptocurrency proponent and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez withdrew his candidacy for the 2024 election after failing to make it past the GOP debate stage. As mayor of Miami, Suarez made high-profile decisions. For example, he will receive part of his salary in Bitcoin and support the MiamiCoin (MIA) token project. Along with Democratic candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Suarez was among the few 2024 U.S. presidential candidates supporting cryptocurrencies.

Among the presidential candidates, only Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. supports cryptocurrencies. If he wins, he promises to ensure the integrity of the rights to use and own Bitcoin.
