Recently, I noticed that World ID has made some big moves again. This identity verification protocol under Worldcoin has just launched a significant version update, with approximately 18 million users verified through Orb, covering over 160 countries, which is quite a large scale.

The most attractive part of this update is the expansion of practical application scenarios. First, let's talk about Tinder. Now users can obtain a "Real Person Verification Badge," which can improve the authenticity of dating connections, effectively addressing the problem of fake accounts that many platforms struggle with. At the same time, Zoom has integrated deepfake detection features to ensure that video call participants are indeed real people. Additionally, they launched the Concert Kit tool, mainly used for concert ticket verification and preventing scalping, which is a very practical scenario.

From a technical perspective, this update introduces mechanisms such as multi-key management, key rotation, account recovery, and session management. Even more interesting is their proposal of the concept of "Human Continuity," which focuses on continuously verifying the same real individual across multiple interactions, rather than just verifying devices or accounts.

In terms of ecosystem development, there has also been progress. Reddit is using it to identify automated accounts, and in the gaming sector, Razer and Mythical Games have already integrated this standard. World ID also simultaneously released an independent app (beta version) and open-source SDK, allowing third-party applications to build their own identity verification systems.

The business model is also worth noting. World ID charges applications that integrate with it, with fees based on the number of active users, while users continue to use it for free. These fees can be settled via on-chain wallets or third-party services, and the protocol layer also supports automatic distribution. It seems they are trying to establish a sustainable business closed loop.
