Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA banking details and it's causing payment delays. Let me break down what actually works because the process is different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're getting permanent grants like old age, disability, or child support, you have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. No way around it. You'll need your ID (original and copy), and proof of your new bank account - either a bank statement from the last three months or a letter from your bank confirming the account is active. Important thing: the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or third-party stuff. They'll give you a form to fill out, and then it takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify everything. If you're trying to update your SASSA banking details before month-end payments, get it done before the 15th or you'll miss that month's cycle.

Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's way simpler because everything's online. You go to the official SASSA SRD website, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. Click the link, enter your new bank details, and that's it. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for verification. The catch is the bank account still has to be registered in your name.

For updating your phone number, permanent grant holders should call 0800 60 10 11 or just visit the office. SRD users can do it through the portal - enter your ID and Application ID, add the new number, they'll send you a one-time PIN to verify it. Just be careful with fake websites out there claiming to help with this stuff. Always use the official SASSA links.

Honestly, if you're having issues with the online process or anything feels off, just call SASSA directly or go to the office. It might take longer but at least you know it's legit and sorted properly.
