Bahrain's only refinery reportedly attacked by Iran, energy disruptions continue to worsen
Deep Tide TechFlow News, March 9 — According to foreign media reports, smoke was seen coming from the Bapco refinery in Bahrain. Witnesses from Reuters said the Bahrain government previously announced that the area was damaged due to an Iranian drone attack. The reported attack site in Bahrain is one of the oldest and most strategically important energy hubs in the Middle East, and Bahrain has heavily invested in modernizing its facilities there. Bapco is equivalent to Saudi Aramco for Bahrain. In terms of capacity, Bapco’s refinery has a capacity of about 405,000 barrels per day. For comparison, Saudi Arabia’s largest refinery, Ras Tanura, has a capacity of about 550,000 barrels per day. Analysts say Iran’s strategy appears to be similar to what has been seen since early last week — exerting maximum pressure on oil prices in hopes that Gulf countries can persuade Trump to make concessions. So far, Bahrain’s national oil company has announced it has encountered force majeure. (Jin10 Data)
