The extreme cold wave sweeping the East Coast of the United States has triggered massive cancellations in flight services. Data from CNBC shows that over 5,000 flights have been canceled as a result of this severe winter storm. Airlines are responding by waiving change and cancellation fees for routes serving airports from Virginia to Maine, providing flexibility for affected passengers.
According to real-time tracking from FlightAware, the situation at major airports is critical. At John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport in New York, about two-thirds of inbound flights and 40% of outbound flights were canceled on February 22. Forecasts indicate conditions will worsen on February 23, with expectations of even more flight cancellations. For passengers, this means prolonged delays or rescheduling to later dates. This storm on the East Coast poses a serious challenge to air transportation operations in the region.
