Google’s parent company is preparing for an ambitious expansion in India, which could potentially more than double its workforce in this key country. According to media sources, including Jin10, the tech giant plans a significant expansion of its Indian office, capable of accommodating up to 20,000 employees, compared to the current 14,000 staff members. This would account for about 10% of Alphabet’s global workforce, which numbers approximately 190,000 people.

Grand Deployment in the Tech Hub

Bangalore, recognized as India’s tech capital, will become the center of this expansion. The company has already leased an office building in the prestigious Elm Vibe City project and has secured rights to purchase two additional buildings. The total leased space will amount to several million square feet (which translates to hundreds of thousands of square meters—approximately 200,000+ square meters, considering one square foot equals about 0.093 square meters or 930 square centimeters).

Project Implementation Timeline

The Elm Vibe City project is located in the Whitefield tech corridor—a recognized center of IT innovation covering 2.4 million square feet. The first building is scheduled to open to employees within the coming months. Construction of the second and third buildings is expected to be completed within the next year, allowing Alphabet to gradually increase its number of specialists.

Strategic Significance of the Expansion

Expanding operations in India underscores the country’s growing importance for global tech companies. The dense concentration of high-tech professionals in Bangalore, attractive labor costs, and a favorable investment environment make India a key battleground for Alphabet’s development in the Asia-Pacific region. This scale of expansion demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to developing its operations in the Indian market.
