【Block Rhythm】Lens Protocol reaches a major turning point. This social infrastructure project, launched in early 2022 by Aave founder Stani Kulechov, officially hands over development rights to Mask Network.
Speaking of Lens Protocol, many still remember its original ambition — to create a Web3 version of Twitter running on Ethereum. Kulechov has articulated the core idea: decentralized content storage governed by smart contracts, providing developers with a neutral social infrastructure that enables them to build applications capable of reaching mainstream users.
In terms of data, the project has also achieved results. Over the past year since launching on Polygon, Lens has accumulated over 110,000 social accounts and spawned hundreds of applications. But clearly, both teams recognize that having protocols and infrastructure alone is not enough.
Mask Network stated very directly after taking over: “The next phase is not about launching more protocols, but about creating truly used products, as well as shaping the culture and building a truly thriving community together.” This statement is very pragmatic. Mask Network itself has also accumulated experience in decentralized social media, gaining attention early on for supporting the Mastodon ecosystem, and even acquiring the second-largest Mastodon server in 2022.
Whether this transfer of power can lead Lens toward broader application and implementation remains to be seen.

Lens really can't hold up anymore, still have to rely on Mask to save the day. The path of Web3 social is too difficult.

Oh no, Lens is having another personnel change? I didn't expect Mask to step in...
But honestly, with 110,000 accounts, the performance is a bit disappointing. The Web3 Twitter dream still feels too far away.

Another project relay runner has taken the baton. Will Lens survive this time?

Damn, is Lens about to fade out? Passing the baton to Mask feels a bit rushed.

Hmm... Another story of a power transfer. Is Lens really going to lie flat? 110,000 users sound like a lot, but in the entire social ecosystem, it's still too small. No wonder they have to rely on Mask to save the scene.

Haha, after all the fuss with Lens, it's still being handed over to Mask? What happened to Web3 Twitter? Now users are going to migrate elsewhere.

Oh wow... Lens has been handed over to Mask, it seems Stani also thinks it's time to change the surfing position. 110,000 accounts sound good, but what about the LP yield? That's the real indicator. Infrastructure without capital efficiency is just a decoration.

It's another "handover," feeling like no one wants to run in the relay race anymore.

Is Lens handed over to Mask? Now let's see how Mask saves this project. Don't just do something superficial again.
