Hungarian regulatory authorities temporarily block the prediction market Polymarket, with gambling compliance risks once again becoming a focus

Abstract generation in progress

【Crypto World】Hungary’s regulatory authority has taken action against the prediction market platform Polymarket. Officially, citing “organizing gambling activities as illegal,” the platform’s main domain and all subdomains have been temporarily blocked.

When will this ban be lifted? It depends on when the regulatory authority completes its review—which means there is no clear deadline at the moment. Some users have already discovered that they cannot access Polymarket from Hungarian IP addresses at all.

This incident highlights a current issue: the regulatory attitude towards prediction market platforms varies globally. Some regions consider them legitimate information aggregation tools, while others see them as involving gambling. As Web3 applications become more mainstream, such regulatory conflicts will only become more frequent. For platforms and users, cross-border compliance has become an unavoidable topic.

Hungary is really strict, banning under the guise of gambling. The regulatory logic is completely absurd. How does this become gambling? Prediction markets are not slot machines... Cross-border compliance issues are bound to blow up sooner or later. Web3 in Europe is really too difficult, with each country having different rules. Players are facing too many challenges. It's that European approach again—cracking down on prediction markets? They'll be bypassed sooner or later. With such high compliance costs, small platforms can't survive. Otherwise, Polymarket would have learned to be smarter long ago.

Hungary is causing trouble again. The prediction market has truly become a testing ground for regulations everywhere. If this continues, who will still dare to use it with confidence?

Here we go again, Europe is up to its tricks. Hungary just bans it, prediction markets are really a regulatory hell. Really, this thing is a tool in some places, and in others it becomes gambling? LOL, the standards are totally based on mood. For cross-border compliance, small platforms really can't handle it. Seems like in the future, we'll need to look at whitepapers along with a globe haha. Web3 isn't supposed to be decentralized? Now regulators in various countries are playing the "centralized" game here. Just wait, there will be more restrictions. The real test is still to come.

Hungary's move is also incredible. Is the prediction market being banned just like that, as gambling? That must be really frustrating for Polymarket users.

Hungary's move is really ruthless, but to be honest, prediction markets are a gray area; no one can clearly say whether they are tools or gambling. It's another case of compliance issues. When will this day come to an end?
