Original Title: Tether partners with a licensed exchange in Laos to promote USDT education

Tether has announced a partnership with Bitqik, one of the only two licensed cryptocurrency exchanges in Laos, with the goal of reaching 10,000 people through stablecoin education programs by 2026.
The initiative will focus on promoting USDT adoption through quarterly events in major cities, including Vientiane, Pakse, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang.
Bitqik will develop online educational content and organize seminars on Bitcoin investment and stablecoin use cases, presenting the program as a way to expand financial literacy in Laos.
What has happened
The collaboration aims to increase awareness of USDT through the Bitqik Academy, which will organize educational activities aimed at students, entrepreneurs, and communities across Laos.
Bitqik, which received its trading license from the Bank of Laos in January 2022 along with LDX, operates as one of the two regulated platforms authorized to offer digital asset brokerage and trading services in the country.
“This collaboration reflects our commitment to grassroots education and empowering Laos communities with the knowledge and tools needed to participate meaningfully in the digital economy,” said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether.
The partnership follows similar educational initiatives by Tether in Thailand with another regional platform and programs in Africa, as the stablecoin issuer expands its presence in Southeast Asia.
Why it matters
Laos is implementing a pilot regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies that remains experimental, with significant deficiencies highlighted by the Financial Action Task Force in 2023.
The country announced plans to cease cryptocurrency mining operations by the first quarter of 2026, redirecting energy to AI data centers, while several licensed companies owe $20 million in unpaid fees.
USDT has a market capitalization of $136 billion, making it the largest stablecoin in the world, and Tether presents its educational partnerships as a way to expand access to digital finance in emerging markets.
The initiative is part of the issuer’s broader expansion strategy in Southeast Asia.
