The development of public chain ecosystems ultimately depends on the support of underlying infrastructure. The combination of the Sui blockchain and Walrus protocol is like equipping this public chain with an efficient "storage brain"—creating a new approach that combines high-performance execution with efficient storage collaboration.

Walrus, developed by Mysten Labs, is essentially designed to address the storage pain points of the Sui network. But its role goes far beyond that; through ecosystem collaboration, it is driving innovative breakthroughs in multiple sectors such as GameFi, SocialFi, and AI.

From a technical perspective, the synergy between the two is quite evident. Sui's object-centric execution model and horizontally scalable architecture provide Walrus with efficient metadata management and transaction processing capabilities. Conversely, Walrus focuses on storing and distributing large blob data, transferring storage tasks from Sui validators to independent storage nodes—this significantly reduces the burden on Sui validators, allowing them to concentrate on transaction execution and smart contracts. In simple terms, each does their own job, resulting in higher overall efficiency.

The data is even more intuitive. According to industry reports, if Walrus's storage capacity reaches 1EB, the annual gas fee consumption would be around 240 million SUI tokens, accounting for about 15% of the current circulating supply. This figure is quite interesting—it suggests that storage demand alone can drive a healthy token consumption mechanism, creating a virtuous cycle within the ecosystem.

On the application layer, progress is also accelerating. Walrus's storage capabilities are activating the innovative potential of the Sui ecosystem. Especially during the developer event held in Shenzhen in 2025, we saw an increasing number of projects beginning to utilize this storage infrastructure to build new applications. The interaction between this infrastructure and the application layer is truly a sign of a thriving ecosystem.

To be honest, storage was indeed a weakness for Sui before, and Walrus came quite timely. However, I am more concerned about the estimated gas fee of 240 million SUI... This number sounds impressive, but can it actually be realized? It still depends on how many projects in the ecosystem are willing to use it.

Alright, this set of combo punches does have some substance. Separating storage can improve efficiency, but whether it truly makes money depends on what applications the ecosystem can develop. It's not that Sui isn't capable; I just feel that Walrus is still more talk than action right now. We’ll have to wait until the project teams actually start using it to see. That 15% circulating supply gas fee data looks pretty intimidating, but the premise is that 1EB really needs to be fully utilized... The analogy of a storage brain works, but no matter how smart the brain is, if no one builds houses, it's all pointless. I’ve definitely seen quite a few new projects trying out in developer events over in Shenzhen. That’s a pretty good sign, right? Just not sure how long they can keep it up.

Haha, Sui's recent moves are quite impressive; the saying "each does their own job" is spot on. Looking at the details, the annual consumption of 2.4 million SUI for 1EB capacity is quite intense, and the token burn mechanism seems well-designed. But whether it can truly be implemented depends on what these projects can produce this year. Having infrastructure alone without applications is pointless. I'm a bit looking forward to how the Shenzhen event will turn out.

Hey, separating concerns is really clever; validators no longer have to carry the burden of storage. Thinking about the 240 million SUI, it seems like it can support the ecosystem's self-sustaining growth. Can GameFi and AI really connect? Or is it just another PPT ecosystem? Mysten's design this time is pretty good, but Walrus has to actually run to be considered successful. How is the project that was in Shenzhen doing? Has anything real been implemented?
