CoinVoice has learned that Chainalysis released a research report indicating that by 2025, the activities of countries in the cryptocurrency sector will have increased significantly. Illegal organizations are now operating large-scale on-chain infrastructure to assist transnational crime networks in obtaining goods and services and laundering their illicit gains through cryptocurrencies. Data shows that illegal cryptocurrency transactions reached at least $154 billion in 2025, a 162% increase from the previous year, primarily due to a 694% surge in the amount received by sanctioned entities. However, even if the amount received by sanctioned entities remains flat compared to last year, 2025 will still be a record-breaking year for cryptocurrency crime, as activities in most illegal categories have increased. Additionally, stablecoins dominate illegal transactions, currently accounting for 84% of all illegal transaction volume.
