Overview

Major accounting firm PwC is significantly expanding its involvement in the crypto and digital assets space, driven by an increasingly favorable regulatory environment in the United States.

Strategic Shift

PwC U.S. Senior Partner and CEO Paul Griggs stated in a recent interview that the firm is actively building capabilities across audit and consulting services for crypto clients:

“We are never going to lean into a business that we haven’t equipped ourselves to deliver. Over the last 10 to 12 months, as we’ve taken on more opportunities in that digital assets arena, we’ve bolstered our resource pool inside and outside.”

Griggs emphasized that the firm now sees substantial opportunities emerging in the crypto sector:

“Whether we are doing work in the audit space or doing work in the consulting arena, we do all the above in crypto. We see more and more opportunities coming our way.”

Regulatory Catalyst

The shift follows clearer regulatory frameworks, including the GENIUS Act and the resolution of several high-profile enforcement cases, which have signaled greater legitimacy for digital assets. These developments have reassured major corporations that previously hesitated to engage with crypto technologies.

Service Offerings

PwC has been advising clients on implementing crypto technologies to enhance operational efficiency, particularly through stablecoins and tokenization. Griggs noted:

“The GENIUS Act and the regulatory rulemaking around stablecoin I expect will create more conviction around leaning into that product and that asset class. The tokenisation of things will certainly continue to evolve as well. PwC has to be in that ecosystem.”

Talent and Client Base

The firm has recruited senior crypto specialists, including Cheryl Lesnik, who rejoined PwC after three years focused exclusively on digital asset clients. PwC’s crypto clientele now includes bitcoin miners and other digital asset-focused companies.

Industry Trend

Other major accounting firms, including KPMG and Deloitte, have undertaken similar strategic moves, indicating that digital assets are increasingly becoming integrated into mainstream financial services.

pwc has caught the wave this time, but on the other hand... does the entry of big institutions really mean that the crypto world is about to change? or is it just taking a layer of our money?

I think pwc's move is good, and the big fish entering the market is indeed different. I'm just worried that there might be another wave of regulatory crackdown later.

pwc, this move is quite aggressive. Is the signal for big fish entering so obvious... But speaking of which, as soon as regulation loosens, everyone rushes in. We've seen this routine so many times already.

pwc really has a keen sense of smell this time, jumping in as soon as the regulatory direction shifts... Traditional financial giants are also rushing in, while small retail investors still have to rely on luck

pwc really came in a bit suddenly this time. As soon as regulation loosens, they rush in. But then again, this is the playstyle of big institutions... they only dare to act once they're compliant.
