NEO's two main founders publicly split: Da Hongfei and Zhang Zhengwen accuse each other of monopolizing finances and lacking transparency
December 31 News, the two core founders of NEO clashed publicly today, fiercely disputing control over project funds and governance issues. Da Hongfei took the lead, accusing co-founder Zhang Zhengwen (Erik Zhang) of long-term personal control over the majority of NEO/GAS assets, violating the promise to transfer assets to multi-signature wallets, and using financial advantages to act arbitrarily, "hijacking" protocol governance. Da Hongfei stated that he had remained silent previously to maintain community confidence, but now has to make this public, and promised to release financial reports in Q1 2026, vowing to recover control of the treasury by all means.
In response, Zhang Zhengwen quickly countered, saying the core issue is the "black box" of finances. He pointed out that all foundation assets except NEO/GAS have been under Da Hongfei’s control for a long time, and he has never provided any auditable financial disclosures to the community or third parties. Zhang Zhengwen emphasized that his insistence on holding NEO/GAS is to perform "minimal risk control," preventing these core assets from being involved in Da Hongfei’s opaque operational structure, or the consequences would be disastrous. $NEO
