A landmark healthcare infrastructure deal is reshaping diagnostic capabilities in Indonesia. GE HealthCare has secured a significant partnership with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health to deploy more than 300 advanced CT scanners across public hospitals nationwide through 2028. This roll-out targets all 38 provinces, marking one of the largest diagnostic equipment expansions in the Southeast Asian nation’s history.

The initiative operates under the SIHREN program (Strengthening Indonesia’s Health Referral Network), a competitively awarded contract following World Bank procurement standards. The scale is substantial: Indonesia’s 280+ million population will gain improved access to cutting-edge imaging technology that can detect cancer, stroke, and heart disease at earlier, more treatable stages.

Why This Matters for Non-Communicable Diseases

NCDs represent a growing health burden across Indonesia. Early detection through advanced CT imaging significantly improves treatment outcomes and survival rates. The rollout addresses critical gaps between urban medical centers and remote healthcare facilities, democratizing access to diagnostic capabilities that were previously concentrated in major cities.

Strengthening the National Health System

Beyond imaging hardware, the SIHREN framework restructures Indonesia’s entire referral network. It modernizes how patients move through the healthcare system, linking diagnostic centers with treatment facilities more effectively. This coordination extends to maternal health services and pandemic preparedness—key vulnerabilities exposed during recent global health crises.

The timeline is ambitious but achievable: full deployment across all provinces by 2028 positions Indonesia as a regional leader in diagnostic infrastructure investment. For healthcare providers and patients alike, this collaboration signals a fundamental shift toward preventive care and early intervention rather than treating advanced-stage diseases.
