Pentagon Requests Over $200 Billion Budget to White House for Iran War

Gate News reports that on March 18, according to The Washington Post, senior U.S. government officials said the Pentagon (U.S. Department of Defense) requested White House approval for a congressional budget request exceeding $200 billion on March 19 to fund the Iran war. The amount far exceeds the current costs of large-scale government airstrikes and is almost certain to face opposition from lawmakers against the conflict. The request aims to urgently boost the production capacity of key weapons, which have been heavily consumed over the past three weeks. Some White House officials believe the Pentagon’s request is unlikely to be approved by Congress. Sources familiar with the matter said that over the past two weeks, the Pentagon has proposed several different funding options. This effort is led by Deputy Secretary of Defense Steven Feinberg, who has developed a series of funding plans to quickly address the Pentagon’s ammunition shortages. Senator Tom Cotton, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and a Republican, is also pushing for additional funding support for the intelligence community in the final plan.
