Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee attended the HKMA 65th Anniversary Celebration and witnessed the presentation of the Sustainable Development Awards.
The 65th Anniversary Dinner and 2025 HKMA Sustainable Development Awards Ceremony of the Hong Kong Management Association was successfully held on November 17 (Monday) at the Hong Kong Ho Ho Hotel. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. John Lee Ka-chiu GBM SBS PDSM PMSM, served as the guest of honor for the HKMA 65th Anniversary Dinner, celebrating the HKMA's grand event with numerous political and business leaders.
In a speech at the 65th anniversary dinner of the Hong Kong Management Association, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee mentioned that Hong Kong has a world-class education system and highly internationalized universities, attracting many non-local students to pursue studies and development in the city. In recent years, through various talent introduction programs, more than 230,000 professionals have been attracted to Hong Kong, many of whom are engaged in the innovation and technology and financial sectors. He particularly thanked the HKMA for collaborating with the government to hold the “Hong Kong International Talent Career Expo” to assist newcomers in integrating into the local job market.
He also emphasized that Hong Kong maintains its competitiveness under “one country, two systems,” ranking among the top in several recent international reports, including being rated as the world's freest economy and one of the three major financial centers in the world. The government will continue to promote the “Go Global” and “Northern Metropolis” plans, working together with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the “Belt and Road” initiative to propel Hong Kong towards excellence, innovation, and growth.
Professor Eric Yim GBS JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Management Association, shared in his welcome speech that since its establishment in 1960, the Hong Kong Management Association has been committed to enhancing the management standards in Hong Kong and the surrounding regions, playing a crucial role in supporting the government in driving economic growth and development. He pointed out that from the 1970s to the 2000s, the HKMA supported Hong Kong's transformation into a knowledge-based economy through diverse management programs. During the time when there were only two universities in Hong Kong, the HKMA pioneered the introduction of diploma programs in Business Management and Management Studies, having nurtured nearly 28,000 management talents to date. The HKMA is also a pioneer in bringing in quality overseas degree programs, allowing working professionals to enhance their qualifications while working.
In recent years, to align with the government's policy of developing Hong Kong as a global green finance center, the HKMA established the HKMA Sustainable Development Award in 2016 and founded the HKMA Global ESG Management Center in 2021, with related courses training over 8,500 executives. To support Hong Kong in becoming an international innovation and technology hub, the HKMA set up the HKMA Global Innovation Management Center in 2018 and established the HKMA/HKT Global Innovation Award in 2022, while also offering various courses in big data, innovation, and artificial intelligence. To support the government in developing Hong Kong as an international high-end talent hub, the HKMA collaborated with the Hong Kong Talent and Professionals Association to launch the Hong Kong International Talent Career Expo, showcasing thousands of quality job opportunities and attracting over 24,000 new talents to Hong Kong, assisting them in integrating into work and life in the city.
At the meeting, Chairman Ying Jiabai particularly encouraged everyone to fulfill their civic duty and actively vote in the Legislative Council election held on December 7.
Professor Leung Wai-shi, Chairman of the 65th Anniversary Organizing Committee of the Hong Kong Management Association and Vice President of HKMA, mentioned in his speech of thanks that to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Hong Kong Management Association, the organizing committee has planned a series of meaningful activities, including the HKMA 65th Anniversary “Together·Grateful·Race Day” event; the annual summit themed “Excellence and Innovation, Growth and Win-Win”, sharing 12 inspiring stories from Hong Kong; a series of short video interviews with business leaders aimed at equipping the younger generation to embrace future opportunities; and the establishment of the HKMA 65th Anniversary Talent Development Fund, with a grant of one million HKD to support one hundred working individuals in continuous education. These activities highlight HKMA's commitment to promoting excellence in management and nurturing future leaders in Hong Kong.
On the occasion of reviewing the sixty-five-year journey of HKMA, Ms. Hu Zhijun, President of the Hong Kong Management Association, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Professor Yeng Ka Pak GBS JP, Chairman of HKMA, the three Vice Chairpersons Professor Lai Wai Si, Mr. Cheng Shan Qiang, Mr. Jiang Dong Qiang, all Honorary Chairpersons, past councils, committee members, and every colleague from all sectors who have cooperated closely with HKMA, generously sponsored, selflessly contributed, and actively participated. We hold nine management competitions each year, aimed at setting industry benchmarks, sharing successful experiences from award winners, and promoting continuous progress in the industry.
