Meta will lay off 10% of its staff, affecting 8,000 employees

On April 24th, Meta plans to lay off 10%, affecting approximately 8,000 employees. The group is seeking to improve operational efficiency through layoffs to offset the huge expenses in artificial intelligence (AI). Meta disclosed this layoff action in a memo sent to employees, stating that the layoffs will be implemented on May 20th, and the group will no longer fill the 6,000 vacancies originally planned. Meta’s HR chief Janelle Gale mentioned AI spending, saying that layoffs are part of ongoing efforts to improve the company’s operational efficiency and help offset other investments Meta is making.
