German Chancellor on U.S. intervention: Will only create more problems

German Chancellor Scholz said on the 20th that there is no basis for intervention in Cuba. He noted that Cuba does not pose any threat to any third country and that he “cannot see what basis there is for (the United States) to intervene.” Brazilian President Lula visited Germany from the 19th to the 20th. At a joint press conference held with both sides on the 20th, Scholz said that if a conflict were to occur, it should be resolved peacefully through diplomatic means, and that stirring up new conflicts in the world without cause would only create more problems. Scholz also said the United States currently has no reason to launch such actions. He said he hopes that the actions already underway can end peacefully as soon as possible. At the press conference, Lula said that Cuba has endured years of sanctions and a blockade, which is a “global scandal.” Because a major world power, driven purely by ideological motives, has imposed a blockade on its people, leaving a country unable to decide its own fate.
