The U.S. Embassy in Iraq urges American citizens to evacuate as soon as possible
Local time on the 20th, the U.S. Embassy in Iraq issued a statement stating that the “Iran-aligned” Iraqi militia groups continue to plan attacks against U.S. citizens and U.S.-related targets in Iraq, including multiple locations across the country such as the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). The statement pointed out that some individuals associated with the Iraqi government are still providing “political, economic, and operational support” to these militia groups. The statement said that Iraqi airspace has been reopened, and some commercial flights have resumed. U.S. citizens planning to travel to Iraq should be aware that there is still a risk of missile, drone, and rocket attacks within Iraq. The statement reminded U.S. citizens that the travel advisory level for Iraq has been raised to the highest level, Level 4, and stated, “Under no circumstances should you travel to Iraq. If you are already in Iraq, leave immediately.” The U.S. embassy and consulate in Iraq remain operational during the evacuation reminder. (CCTV News)
