Golden Finance reports that on April 22, Base announced its first independent network upgrade, Base Azul, which has gone live on the testnet, with the target mainnet activation date set for May 13, 2026.
This upgrade is Base’s first network-level upgrade conducted independently of the OP Stack.
The official statement says Azul will improve in three areas: security, performance, and developer experience.
Base will enable multiple proof mechanisms through Azul, the base-reth-node will become its sole execution client, and it will adopt the latest execution layer standards (Osaka) to stay aligned with Ethereum.
Users do not need to take any action for this upgrade.
