Just caught wind of something pretty significant in the Musk ecosystem - SpaceX is officially moving toward going public, and honestly, the crypto angle here is hard to ignore.
Elon Musk basically confirmed it after space journalist Eric Berger posted about SpaceX's IPO timeline. Musk replied "As usual, Eric is accurate," which pretty much sealed it. Reports are now circulating that the filing could happen as early as this week or next, with the IPO window likely landing mid-to-late 2026, possibly stretching into 2027.
The scale here is wild. We're talking a potential $75+ billion raise, with current valuations sitting around $800 billion and some projections hitting $1.75 trillion. Individual investors could grab over 20% of the offering - a huge deal for retail access to what's been a VC-only play.
Starlink is the real catalyst though. Their satellite internet revenue is projected to jump from $15 billion in 2025 to $22-24 billion in 2026. That growth trajectory is exactly what's attracting serious institutional money. The IPO proceeds will fuel space-based data centers and AI chip acquisition, which explains why this isn't just another space company story.
Now here's where it gets interesting for the crypto crowd. Musk has this long history with Dogecoin - we're talking DOGE-1 satellite mission, merchandise payments in DOGE, and that whole "literal Dogecoin on the moon" narrative from 2021 that keeps resurfacing. Earlier this year, the whole moon Dogecoin thing came back up, and Musk teased "Maybe next year." The speculation never really dies with this guy.
What's fascinating is the broader crypto exposure across Musk-linked entities. SpaceX allegedly holds around 8,285 BTC worth roughly $584 million at current prices (Bitcoin's trading around $71.17K right now). Tesla's reportedly sitting on about 11,509 BTC. So while the exact Dogecoin holdings remain a mystery, it's clear Musk and his companies are serious about crypto positioning.
The IPO probably won't directly move DOGE fundamentals, but the narrative potential? That's another story. Every time Musk does something at SpaceX or Tesla, the crypto community watches for the next DOGE connection. Whether it's real or just hype, that's the game with Elon musk crypto plays - the story matters as much as the tech.
