A Republican U.S. senator unveiled a bill on Monday aimed at preventing American cryptocurrency mining companies from using equipment linked to foreign adversaries. The legislative proposal led by Senators Bill Cassidy and Cynthia Lummis would require certified facilities to phase out such hardware, while also incorporating into law President Donald Trump’s 2025 executive order regarding the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve within the Treasury Department. “Digital asset mining is an important part of our economy,” Cassidy said in a press release. “This bill will protect supply chain security, promote the growth of U.S. manufacturing, and support this industry.”
