Abstract generation in progress

In recent months, Zhang Jingru (Laura), General Manager of the Corporate Affairs Department at Cheung Kong, who has served the company for approximately 33 years, officially announced her retirement. Her daughter is the well-known Xiaohongshu influencer “Joanne Good Morning Mom.” Recently, Joanne posted a video of a conversation with her mother at the office in the Changjiang Center, documenting her mother’s tidying up of the office. The mother and daughter also candidly discussed their differing views on the values of being an “working mom” versus a “full-time mom.”

In Joanne’s eyes, her mother, who spent many years under Li Ka-shing’s leadership, is a decisive “career-driven woman.” Meanwhile, she herself has chosen a completely different path—becoming a full-time mom and content creator.

Bidding farewell to a 33-year career at Cheung Kong, stepping back from the front lines, and enjoying family happiness

In the video, Joanne visits her mother Laura’s office at the Changjiang Center in Central to help tidy up. Reflecting on her long career, Laura appears emotional. She jokes that she joined Cheung Kong’s predecessor ( Hutchison Whampoa) in 1993, and since graduation, except for maternity leave, she has hardly taken a break. She admits, “I am very happy to go to work every morning.”

She expresses that she is “very nostalgic” about the company, considers herself very lucky, and has had excellent bosses, colleagues, and subordinates over the years. Although she loves her job, Laura believes it’s “time to step down.” She plans to dedicate more time to herself, rekindling hobbies like swimming and table tennis, and spending more time with her grandchildren to witness their growth.

Is being a “working mom” a sacrifice? The world has no “what ifs”—Women must be independent

As a senior executive at Cheung Kong, Laura inevitably sacrificed some family time. When Joanne asked if she felt regret about not being able to personally see her daughter to and from school, Laura responded with clarity: “There are no ‘what ifs’ in this world. If I go left, what happens if I go right? No one knows.”

Laura states that when she chose to become a working mom, she was fully aware of what she had to give up. At the same time, she gained a lot from her work. She has always instilled in her daughter the importance of emotional and financial independence. Laura firmly says, “I want to be an economically independent woman, so I decided to go out and work.”

Being a “full-time mom” is not a waste of cultivation—just enjoy it

Joanne, who has achieved great success in her career, asked a sharp question: “I didn’t follow your path and chose to be a full-time mom and blogger. Do you think I wasted your nurturing?” Open-minded Laura fully affirms and supports her daughter. She says everyone should find a position that suits them, and as long as they “enjoy themselves,” that is the best choice.

Laura also believes that her daughter’s development in social media has advantages—flexible timing and the ability to showcase her strengths. She praises her daughter’s taste and love for dressing up. Laura then asks if her daughter envies friends with very successful careers. Joanne believes that the value of being a full-time mom is equally significant: “Educating and accompanying my children, making them happy, and giving them full maternal love—I think this is extremely valuable.”

A Surprise Easter Egg: Witnessing the Glory Days of Advertising

At the end of the video, Laura shares precious memories from tidying her office. She has interacted with numerous celebrities and influential figures from various fields. The video unexpectedly features photos of her with Cantopop stars Andy Lau and Leon Lai.
