Mexico City Metro Line B delayed: delays on Monday, March 2 after concert

Line B of the subway experienced significant congestion on Monday, March 2, when thousands of passengers from the Collective Transportation System faced major delays across the city’s network. Long waits, some exceeding 20 minutes, were caused both by the massive Shakira event at the Zócalo over the weekend and ongoing infrastructure modernization work on the subway.

Widespread delays on several metro lines

The disruptions were not limited to just one line. User reports and observations at key stations revealed that Line A experienced delays of over 10 minutes, while Line 3 saw similar waits, especially at the Indios Verdes terminal.

Line 1 recorded delays of more than 15 minutes, with crowded platforms and trains at full capacity. More critically, Line 8 had the longest wait times, exceeding 20 minutes in several sections. Line B also experienced waits over 10 minutes, according to traveler testimonies.

Lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, and 12 maintained moderate ridership with steady circulation, according to official metro reports, though the general recommendation was to anticipate travel and plan extra time for possible delays.

Temporary closure of Zócalo station after the massive event

Zócalo/Tenochtitlán station remained closed during the early hours of Monday due to the large gathering at the Plaza de la Constitución for the weekend concert. This temporary closure forced travelers to seek alternatives at nearby stations such as Pino Suárez or Allende to complete their journeys.

Around 9:40 a.m. that day, the station was officially reopened to the public, allowing users to resume their usual routes through this key network hub.

Renovation on Line 2: affected schedules this week

Beyond the congestion caused by special events, Line 2 continues undergoing renovation work that impacts service. The San Antonio–Viaducto section operates only from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with additional restrictions on weekends: service is suspended after 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays and completely closed on Sundays.

This renovation is part of the modernization program for the Blue Line, which includes early closures at three key stations affecting the usual routes of thousands of users.

Metrobús operates without issues

Contrary to the metro situation, the Metrobús system reported full service across all lines without widespread disruptions. This operational continuity provided an alternative for travelers seeking to avoid rail delays that Monday.

The recommendation for public transport users in the capital is to stay alert to official announcements and consider leaving earlier to avoid delays in their daily commutes.
