Royal Caribbean Group has proposed building a 130,000-ton floating dry dock in Panama’s Chiriquí province, intending to service large cruise and container ships as an alternative to facilities in Asia and North America. Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino has expressed strong support for the project, emphasizing its potential to create 500 to 800 jobs and enhance Panama’s position as a maritime hub. The development, planned between 2026 and 2031, prioritizes low-carbon operations and high environmental standards.
