Wu said that Vitalik Buterin stated that the Ethereum community is discussing switching the finality mechanism from Casper FFG to a new scheme called Minimmit. Unlike Casper FFG, which requires two rounds of signatures for confirmation, Minimmit achieves block finality with only one round, but its fault tolerance decreases from about 33% to approximately 17%. Vitalik believes this trade-off offers a better balance between security and recoverability, as in cases of attacks or software failures, a "chain competition rather than incorrect finalization" is more likely to occur, thereby giving the community more time to coordinate and recover.
