If all retail investors "hold until death and do not sell", will the sharks be at a loss?

In the crypto world, everyone must have heard the saying: 👉 “Only when the majority of retail investors suffer losses and cut their orders, will the whales lower the price.” It sounds reasonable. But if we assume that all the small players hold on tightly and do not sell, what will happen? Do the sharks really have no way to force you to let go? Let me say, it is just an illusion. The reality is much harsher. Sharks have dozens of tricks to force you to let go. And the most common outcome for most retail investors is still: “sell low - buy high,” repeating until the capital runs out while still not understanding why. Let's analyze the “scenarios” that sharks often use to make you surrender tokens unconsciously.

  1. Straight Price – Psychological Terror Tactics The goal of a strong sell-off is not simply to lower prices, but to destroy trust. Do you think you can “hold on to the end”? The sharks will show you what ultimate despair looks like. For example: ETH once had a period of falling nearly 60% in just 3 months. Buyers in the 3200–3400 range were all psychologically defeated. With altcoins, it can be even more brutal. Many tokens can drop by 90%, and then lose another 80% on top of that. If you start with $100 and are left with just a few dollars, what kind of human psyche can withstand that? Sharks only need to pull back 5–10x from the bottom for you to think it's a “chance to return.” But in reality, it hasn't reached the shore yet, and most will choose to sell off during the journey.
  2. Quietly “Bleeding” – The Enemy of Time It's not the straight drop that will kill you. What kills most individuals is the erosion of time: The price falls slowly, bit by bit. The time spans from a few months to a few years. Hope – disappointment – hope again – disappointment again. If you use margin, the pressure of interest rates and borrowing will automatically “cut” you out of the game. If you use savings, family pressure, work, and comments from friends will make you lose patience. This is called “time-based stop-loss” – you don't sell because of losses, but you sell because you can't stand the mental torment.
  3. Extreme Volatility – Chasing After the “Diamond Hands” Do you think you are persistent? Sharks just need a few shakes on top – step down and it's done. For example: ETH goes from 1500 up to 4000, you still hold. It drops back to 2000, you still hold. It pulls back to 4000, then drops again… And so on. You don't lose much, but the price to pay is fatigue, doubt, and pressure from the surrounding environment. At some point, you break free just to find relief. And often, you sell right before the trend really starts.
  4. News & Events – Decisive Blow The crypto market is very easily influenced by information: “SEC sues exchange”, “Large funds sell off”, “Exchange collapses, hackers steal hundreds of millions”, “FED raises interest rates”… Many news articles are completely exaggerated or do not have a direct impact, but just planting fear in your mind is enough to make you sell in panic. Sharks understand well: the crypto market operates on emotions, not logic. So, is there any way for Small Players to win? To be honest, if you only rely on “faith” or “holding on without selling”, you will eventually be eliminated by the market. What you need is not to be stubborn, but to have the right awareness: Choose assets with real value, cash flow, and an ecosystem, instead of junk tokens. Understand that the game is a battle of psychology and timing, not just about price. Know when the market is staging a scenario, so as not to get caught up. In this game, the winner is not the toughest player, but the one who sees through the rules of the game. ✍️ Conclusion: Sharks are not afraid of you holding on tight. They just need a little time, a few shakes, or a wave of news, and most of you will automatically leave the table. The crypto market is not a place to test “blind patience.” It is a test of thinking – knowledge – psychology. Those who do not understand will become prey. Those who understand the rules will have a chance to survive until the end.
