Odaily Planet Daily News reports that the widow of deceased early Bitcoin contributor Hal Finney posted through her X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that 17 years ago today, Hal Finney (@Halfin) published his first tweet mentioning Bitcoin, "Running bitcoin," and simultaneously announced the launch of the fifth "Running Bitcoin Challenge" event.

Hal Finney was the recipient of Satoshi Nakamoto's first Bitcoin transfer and played a key role in perfecting and operating early versions of Bitcoin. He passed away due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
