Did you know? Those century-old shops in China are not the same as they were a hundred years ago. They may not even be as old as KFC in China. Private businesses were not allowed before the reform and opening-up, and claims of five or six decades of family-run century-old snack shops are mostly false. The truly old shops are at most thirty or forty years old. Beijing's first individual industrial and commercial household, "Yuebin Restaurant," was issued a business license in 1980. The crime of speculation and profiteering was legally abolished only in January 2008.
