Trump makes a 180-degree turn, suddenly calling for the release of the Epstein case documents!
U.S. President Trump suddenly changed his stance, urging Congressional Republicans to vote in favor of releasing documents related to the Epstein case. On the 16th local time, Trump stated, “Now is the time to get rid of this eyewash concocted by the Democrats.” Previously, Trump had opposed the release of the Epstein files, and this reversal of position has shocked Washington.
Trump suddenly reverses, calls for the release of Epstein case documents
According to a report by Reuters, Trump called on Congressional Republicans to vote to release the Epstein case documents on the 16th local time. Trump had previously opposed the public release of the Epstein files but has now suddenly reversed his position. On the evening of the 16th, Trump posted on his social media platform “Truth Social” stating, “House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein documents because we have nothing to hide.” He added, “It’s time to come out of the Democratic eyewash; they are trying to distract people from the Republican Party's tremendous successes, including our recent victories on the Democratic 'shutdown' issue.”
Trump went on to say that the U.S. Department of Justice has submitted “tens of thousands of pages” of materials regarding Epstein to the public, and officials are investigating “various Democratic operators.” This sudden reversal of position is extremely rare in Trump's political career, as he typically adheres to his stances and rarely makes a 180-degree turn on public issues.
On the 12th, local time, the U.S. House of Representatives reconvened after being in recess for nearly two months. The House Oversight Committee released tens of thousands of pages of documents related to the Epstein case, causing renewed “interest” in the case. In several emails released by the committee's Democrats, Epstein claimed that Trump was aware of his sexual crimes and had “spent hours” with Virginia Giuffre, one of the key witnesses and victims in the Epstein case.
The more than 20,000 pages of documents released by the Republicans under “hedging” show that Epstein communicated with officials who previously served in the Democratic government, such as former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and former White House counsel Katherine Rumler. In Epstein's remarks, he repeatedly belittled Trump and mentioned Clinton multiple times.
On the 14th local time, Trump posted on his social platform stating that although the Justice Department has released 50,000 pages of documents, the Democrats “are still doing their utmost to hype up the Epstein eyewash,” attempting to divert attention from their poor policies and failures, especially the embarrassing situation caused by the government “shutdown.” In response, Trump said he would request the Justice Department and the FBI to jointly investigate the relationship between Epstein and numerous individuals and institutions.
Trump said that during the government “shutdown,” there was chaos within the Democratic Party, and some weak Republicans “fell into their trap” because of stupidity. Trump stated that Epstein is a Democrat, he is a problem for the Democrats, not for the Republicans. This strategy of completely blaming the Epstein case on the Democrats shows that Trump is trying to shift this issue that could potentially harm him.
Epstein owned a private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands and had close connections with numerous American political and business elites. He was arrested on suspicion of sexual crimes and died in prison in August 2019, ruled as a “suicide.” Some Republican supporters believe that Epstein had a “client list” documenting sex trafficking that included several prominent figures from the Democratic camp. Trump had dealings with Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s, and he provided a new explanation for the breakdown of their relationship, stating that he severed ties with Epstein after Epstein attempted to recruit his employees.
Trump and long-time ally Green have fallen out, infighting within the Republican Party escalates
(Source: Reuters)
According to a report by Reuters on the 15th, on the 14th local time, U.S. President Trump withdrew his support for Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, citing her recent criticisms of his agenda. The report stated that this move marks a break between Trump and Greene, who is considered one of his “long-time allies.”
Trump posted on social media, stating: “I withdraw my support and endorsement for Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia.” In the post, Trump said that Greene “only complains, complains, and complains.” He indicated that the conflict between them began when he showed her a poll indicating that she had almost no chance of winning if she ran for senator or governor without his endorsement, and that he did not intend to support her.
Green basically avoids directly criticizing Trump, but she responded by saying that Trump “just attacked me and lied.” She hinted that Trump might be reacting because she pushed for his administration to disclose records related to the Epstein case. Trump previously dismissed the controversy surrounding the Epstein case as a Democratic-driven “eyewash.”
Greene accused Trump of trying to intimidate other Republicans before the upcoming vote on the release of the Epstein documents, stating, “It's shocking that he would go this far to desperately prevent the release of the Epstein documents.” It is reported that Greene has long been a staunch defender of Trump, but in recent weeks, she has differed from the White House and some Republican officials on several issues. This public rift within the Republican Party highlights the potential threat of the Epstein case to the Trump administration.
