Diego Gutiérrez Zaldívar, founder and CEO of the Argentine startup IOVLabs ( creator of the sidechain RSK), is transforming a residential building in Palermo Soho into the first Cypherpunk Center in Argentina. The project is financed with a loan backed by bitcoin (BTC) through the Tropykus platform.
The space, designed specifically for the community of the pioneering digital asset and Rootstock ( the sidechain that adds smart contracts to Bitcoin ), already has several levels that are being built to host workshops, coworking areas, and spaces dedicated to meetups, exhibitions, and screenings.
Although the work is still ongoing, those who have already visited it claim that “it's a place you never want to leave.” The completion is scheduled for the end of 2026.
By financing this renovation with DeFi, Gutiérrez Zaldívar received a commemorative plaque recognizing him as one of the first in the world to rebuild a property using bitcoin as collateral on a decentralized platform.
This Cypherpunk Center is joining a rapidly growing wave in the region. Among these cases, an Argentine bought an apartment in Villa Raffo that he now rents out, and the rents alone cover the loan payments. Similarly, a couple in Lanús acquired a house with a yard for barbecues without stepping foot in a bank. In Uruguay, a family built their home from scratch while living in a bus, all with BTC-collateralized loans.
All of this happens a year after the Tropykus team arranged a $60,000 loan that was granted to a user in less than a minute. <<sin papeleo,=“” sin=“” importar=“” su=“” historial=“” crediticio=“” ni=“” nacionalidad,=“” simplemente=“” dejando=“” su=“” bitcoin=“” como=“” garantía=“”>>.
Requesting a loan on Tropykus is simple. The user connects their wallet ( compatible with Rootstock), deposits RBTC as collateral, and immediately receives up to 67% of its value in the stablecoin Dollar on Chain (DOC) or RIF US Dollar (USDRIF).
You only need a small balance in RBTC to cover the gas fees. When returning the DOC plus interest, the collateral is automatically unlocked to the applicant's wallet.</sin>
