just realized i've been throwing away money literally every day lol. like those 31 cents from my coffee, 45 cents from lunch... individually it's nothing but it actually adds up fast. apparently there are apps that automatically round up your purchases and stash that spare change into savings or investments. never heard of this before but it's genius?
so basically when you spend $9.69 on something, the app charges you $10 and puts the 31 cents aside. happens with every transaction and you don't even notice it. some people are saving hundreds a year just from their daily purchases through round up savings apps. sounds too good to be true but the math checks out.
found out there's a bunch of these - acorns lets you invest the round ups, chime puts it in a high-yield savings account, stash gives you stock rewards, qapital lets you customize how much to round up to. even apps focused on paying off debt use the same concept but funnel the money toward loans instead.
the thing is, the small amounts DO matter when they compound. especially if you're not good at manual saving like me lol. you just use your card normally and the app handles it in the background. no thinking required, just automatic round up savings happening while you live your life.
has anyone actually used these? curious if people actually see real progress or if it's just marketing hype
