Trump rejects Iranian proposal for talks to end war

President Trump stated he is not satisfied with Tehran's latest offer to end the conflict. He noted that Iranian leadership is split as oil prices remain high.

President Donald Trump rejected a new negotiation proposal from Iran[country:IR] on Friday afternoon, as global oil prices remained above $100 a barrel. The rejection follows a ceasefire active since April 8 after conflict began on February 28. Continued deadlock maintains a blockade on 20% of global oil and gas supplies in the Strait of Hormuz.
Energy Markets React to Diplomatic Stagnation
Brent Crude Oil and Natural Gas prices eased slightly following news of the proposal before stabilizing. Trump told reporters the Iranian leadership appeared disjointed and split into several groups. He stated that Tehran is asking for terms the United States cannot agree to.

The U.S. Treasury warned shippers on Friday afternoon they risk sanctions for paying tolls to Iran. This blockade has pushed energy prices to a four-year high during the current week. The U.S. Navy continues to block exports of Iranian crude oil to enforce the current sanctions regime.
Regional Mediation and Military Readiness
Pakistan continues mediation efforts via telephone, though Trump noted the parties have not yet reached an agreement. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran is ready for diplomacy if the U.S. shifts its approach. Araqchi posted on Telegram that Iranian armed forces remain ready to defend against any threat.

Two senior Iranian sources said the country has activated air defenses against potential strikes from the U.S. or Israel. Previous exchanges involved strikes on American bases and missile launches from Lebanon] by Hezbollah. Trump is reportedly being briefed on plans for new military strikes to compel Iran to negotiate.
Global Economic Pressure and Election Stakes
China Ambassador Fu Cong called the reopening of the Strait an urgent necessity on Friday afternoon. The closure chokes off critical energy flows, impacting global manufacturing and inflation. Fu Cong expects the maritime blockade to be a primary agenda item during upcoming bilateral talks.
Trump expects WT GASOLINE prices to drop sharply once the conflict concludes. Lower fuel costs are a primary focus for the Republican Party before the November midterm elections. The administration argued on Friday afternoon that the ceasefire had terminated hostilities as a legal deadline arrived for a congressional briefing.
