CNN: US Military Plans to Intensify Strikes on Iranian Coastal Targets if Ceasefire Breaks

On April 24, CNN reported, citing multiple informed sources, that US military officials are developing new plans to strike Iran’s military capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz in the event that the current ceasefire agreement with Iran collapses. According to the sources, various target options under consideration include a particular focus on ‘dynamic strikes’ against Iran’s capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz, the southern Persian Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman, potentially targeting small fast attack boats, minesweepers, and other asymmetric assets. These assets have effectively helped Iran to blockade the Strait of Hormuz. Although the US military has already targeted the Iranian navy, most of the focus in the initial month of bombings was on targets far from the strait. The new plan calls for more concentrated bombing operations around the strategic waterway.
