U.S. President Trump posted on social media on the 20th arguing that the U.S. military action against Iran was not the result of Israeli lobbying, “Israel has never persuaded me to go to war with Iran.” Trump stated that the outbreak of a new round of Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October 2023, combined with his firm belief that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons, prompted him to initiate military action against Iran. Regarding a poll claiming his approval rating has fallen to a new low in his second term as president, Trump said, “The polls are rigged.” He also wrote, “The outcome of the Iran (conflict) will be astonishing.” A common view in U.S. public opinion is that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has almost tried to persuade every U.S. administration to go to war with Iran, but only the Trump administration was willing to cooperate. Trump has repeatedly tried to change this external impression. ( Xinhua News Agency )
