US Military Plans Increased Strikes on Iranian Coastal Targets if Ceasefire Breaks

On April 24, CNN reported, citing multiple informed sources, that U.S. military officials are developing new plans to strike Iranian military capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz in the event of a breakdown of the current ceasefire agreement with Iran. Sources indicate that among the various target options being considered, there is a particular focus on ‘dynamic strikes’ against Iran’s capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz, the southern Persian Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman, potentially targeting small fast attack boats, minesweepers, and other asymmetric assets. These assets have effectively helped Iran to blockade the Strait of Hormuz. Although the U.S. military has already targeted the Iranian Navy, most of the key targets struck in the first month of bombing were located far from the strait. The new plan calls for more concentrated bombing operations around this strategic waterway.
