Gold Finance News reported that on April 24, regarding Speaker Kalibov’s appointment as the head of the Iranian side’s negotiating delegation for the Islamabad talks, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson issued an official response on the 23rd. The spokesperson emphasized that the nature of the recent negotiations has undergone a fundamental change; the core issue is no longer the nuclear question, but the complete end of the war. The spokesperson said that Kalibov has practical combat experience from the Iran-Iraq War and a very extensive record across multiple fields. As Speaker, he can effectively coordinate forces within Iran, and he is deeply trusted by all political factions. The Iranian side believes that pairing Kalibov—along with Araghchi, who also has a wartime background—forms an efficient diplomatic team capable of coordinating the overall situation. The spokesperson explicitly pointed out that the nuclear issue is no longer the main focus; the current priority of the negotiations is a complete ceasefire, and the primary task is to safeguard the country’s core interests. Shortly after this statement was released, Israeli sources reported that, due to the intervention of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Kalibov had resigned from Iran’s negotiating team.
