Unrealized losses really are more tormenting than missing out on gains. If I make a little profit on paper, I just consider it good luck; even if I haven't sold at a loss, my mind automatically starts to imagine "what if it keeps falling." Glancing at it before bed makes my heart race... To put it simply, losses are like debts; even if it's just a number, it feels very oppressive.
And now some places are talking about tax increases, tightening or loosening regulations, and with changing deposit and withdrawal expectations, people are more likely to treat "unrealized losses" as the risk of "not being able to get out," doubling their anxiety. My old trick is still the same: split the position into smaller parts, confirm the exit channels first, and I prefer to earn less from high-APR pools than to be woken up in the middle of the night by liquidations or rule changes. As long as I can sleep, that's truly annualized.
