Recently, I've seen a bunch of PFPs shouting "Join the group = Membership = Brand," and I also feel tempted. After all, changing your avatar seems to give you a sense of identity. But honestly, whether long-term value is worth it depends on whether you can continuously provide people with things: content, services, offline connections... Otherwise, once the hype passes, everyone will move on to the next sweet spot.
In the past two days, when cross-chain bridge hacks and oracle quote glitches happened, the group immediately shifted to a consensus of "wait for confirmation," which feels very real: when risks increase, attention doesn't really buy into the "story." I now prefer to see PFPs as tickets or interest markers, not too much as assets; if you want long-term, at least it should withstand a few shocks and still keep people around.
