On April 21, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to brief on the development of industry and information technology in the first quarter of 2026. Zhang Yunming, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that to drive future industries from the laboratory to the mainstream market, the key lies in adhering to the principle that industry sets the questions and science and technology provide the answers, and in removing blockages and bottlenecks between technological innovation and market demand.

On the aspect of technology supply, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will align itself with the actual needs of industrial development, deploy research and tackling tasks, and strengthen coordinated advancement between technology research and applied research, so as to promote the building of platforms and carriers such as manufacturing innovation centers and pilot test platforms, and to help original technologies move faster toward localized (China-style) development and toward large-scale production. On the aspect of policy support, it will coordinate the advancement of the formulation of universal policies and the formulation of policies for specialized tracks. Today’s future industries are tomorrow’s emerging industries and even pillar industries; only by seizing a forward-looking layout for future industries today can we take the commanding heights of development tomorrow.
