Just realized a lot of people don't know how to update their SASSA status when things change. If you're on a permanent grant and need to change your bank details, you literally have to go to the office in person—can't do it online. Bring your ID, proof of the new bank account (bank statement or letter, can't be older than 3 months), and they'll sort it out with a form. Takes up to 21 working days to process, and if you submit after the 15th of the month, you'll have to wait another cycle for the payment method change to kick in.

For the R350 SRD grant though, it's different—everything's online through the official portal. You enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, and you update your bank details there. Way faster. Same rule applies though: account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts.

Phone number updates are also important because that's how they verify stuff and send payment notifications. For permanent grants, call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. For the R350 SRD grant, use their contact portal—enter your ID, get an OTP sent to your new number to confirm. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website, not some random link floating around. Seen too many people get scammed by fake sites claiming to update their grant details. What's your experience been with updating SASSA status changes?
